We went snorkling at Hanauma Bay.
It is a national reserve/park because of the reefs and its ecosystem. We saw a lot of cool stuff there, and a really weird Indian (Asia Indian, not native American, it needed to be clarified) woman. Me and Jonas went snorkling alone when Camilla went back to the beach. All of a sudden we are in between some reefs on a really small dune of sand among all the reefs. All of a sudden this women comes over and stands up right behind me, I got totally weirded out, and I know she did too, because she didn't have aanywhere else to go because it was such a small area with sand. Also she had lost her husband so we helped her out of it.
At the same time, when Camilla tried to find her way back to shore, she met a crazy Indian man, who was looking for his wife. He was all nervous, anxious and all other feelings of neurotic descendant. He didn't say much, but was acting really weird and we brought them together for a reunion, how cute is that?

Skydiving
SO WE DID IT!
IT WAS SO FREAKING AMAZING, NO WORDS CAN EXPLAIN IT; AND EVERYONE WHO EVER GETS THE CHANCE SHOULD TRY IT.
![]() |
| From Skydiving |
It had to be said. This was the coolest thing I've ever done. It wasn't as my expectations, because it was so much faster and sicker. But it still felt very safe, so it was really good.
We got picked up at 10 in the morning in Waikiki, they drove us to North Shore for free, and we went almost straight up in the air from there. I was expecting more waiting, but it was almost none - I loved it.
![]() |
| From Skydiving |
I had a great time, Camilla and Jonas also had a great time. But I think they were a bit more scared than me, I was more excited and thrilled, when they were TERRYFIED, especially Camilla. Jonas was skeptic in the days before, but Camilla freaked out when the plane took off.
![]() |
| From Skydiving |
First I see Camilla jump out of the plane #1 - insane. They just tipped over the edge, and there she goes. I thought that would be the last I saw of her. At least alive. So I figured after the 1st jump, we got 10seconds until the next jumper jumps, but it was so fast. Within 10 seconds, Camilla, Jonas, Mana and I was in free-fall for about 60 seconds.
![]() |
| From Skydiving |
Then we had 4 minutes in the parachute with some GREAT views over O'ahu. They say that on a clear day you can see both Maui and Kauai when you jump, but it was partly cloudy, so we didn't get the chance to see it, but we did see the beautiful landscape of O'ahu.
My pulse is still at 120 - if it don't calm down soon, I might exhaust my heart. I have to do this again, so anyone, come visit me so I have a valid excuse for spending $140 on something arguably unnecessary.

UH Football Game
![]() |
| From UH Football Game [vs Cinncinnati] |
And we went to see the University of Hawaii playing a game of American Football, which was a new experience to all of us. This is the first game where I'm physically present. I've seen it on television, but never live.
![]() |
| From UH Football Game [vs Cinncinnati] |
We watched the last game of the regular season vs Cincinnati Bearcats. We left when there was 9minutes left from the 4th Quarter so we got away before the traffic, and by then, the UH Warriors was leading 24 - 17. We thought it would be a safe bet to leave, but the Bearcats came back and knocked UH Warriors and won the game 24 - 29; too bad Warriors.
![]() |
| From UH Football Game [vs Cinncinnati] |
But, whatever. Since none of us really cares who win, it was a fun experience and it was worth the money and the time without a doubt. The UH college team is one of US best teams. Or at least it was last season, now it is in a build up stage with a lot of new players and they are preparing for the two next season where the new players are matriculated in the team.

Sharkdiving
So, we went diving with the sharks. We saw some pretty big sharks, and it was a lot of fun!
We also bought a disposable camera for some good underwater shots, but we haven't gotten a hold of the pictures yet, but soon. For now, enjoy the few pictures we do got and the video.
Too bad there were no tiger sharks that day. He didn't say why, but I guess it was either too early in the morning, or the wrong season, because it is usually tiger sharks there aswell. But we only saw some Sandsharks and Barracudas; but it was still AWESOME. One thing I regret from the trip, that I didn't take a piss before we left. Because the boat had no toilets, and after a while I had to pea so bad I couldn't enjoy the adrenalin and the great fun we had in the water with the crazy ass sharks. This was a problem for Camilla aswell, she even got a bladder infection. But a couple of antibiotica pills and $240 later, she was 'frisk som en fisk' or 'fresh as a fish' or lets try again 'healthy as a fish'.
Watch the video too - it is good entertainment.

Sunset and Waimea Shorebreak
So we rented a car. First we got a rate at 18$ / day and ordered. When we got there it was 32$ extra pr. day because of insurance of the car aswell. Lame of the company to not mention it, but it is OK. We got a Honda Civic, a good enough car.
We decided to drive to watch one of the worlds most prestigious surf contests, The Triple Crown event; more precisely the one at Sunset Beach (One out of three competitions; the two others are at Haleiwa and Banzai Pipeline). There we saw some great surfing - but the pictures didn't get too good from the surfing. But we also saw someone Camilla thought reminded her of the lead actor in "The Hills" a reality show on MTV.
After the surf contest, we went to Waimea Bay Beach Park to jump off the Waimea rock and play with the HUGE shorebreak they got. Apparently one of the worlds largest shorebreaks. The Waimea Rock was closed because too big waves. But I didn't mind, playing in the waves was even more fun and thrilling. Even though the lifeguards warned everyone to be careful and get out of the water, a lot of people stayed in the water - this resulted in 4 ambulances coming to pick up one after one. But getting out of the water is easier said then done. This is a thing that is hard to explain to ANYONE whom never been swimming at Waimea on a day with huge waves. The power of a wave is just INCREDIBLE. And what seems as a harmful and small wave, is all of a sudden a 6-8m high mountain. This can be seen in the slideshow where I struggle to get out of the water when the largest wave of the day came crushing on to the shore. Fun, but yet exciting and thrilling. I hope Skydiving and Sharkdiving is even more exciting, and I guess it is. ENJOY!

The first days of Visit
The first days where hectic. Both Camilla and Jonas had a really bad jet-lag so we weren't able to do too much of partying the first days, which really were the only days that I would have time to do partying with them. Anyways; did we really miss anything? Not that I know of anyways, so I guess it's alright.
But what we did do is that we went to one club called Level 4, which is a really exclusive and nice club in Waikiki. Also we went to a bit more quiet place called Da Big Kahuna's for some karaoke, which was hilarious and I did Grease - Summernights duet with a swedish girl called Sanna, but nor Camilla or Jonas had the balls to sing, well too bad, it was superfun. So I will put up a couple of slideshows to enjoy!

Plans for Camilla and Jonas

A couple of days ago I created a group on Facebook for events that I will host while Camilla and Jonas are here in Hawaii. It was aimed so that it would be easier for people to know what kind of events and activities was going down. This way we will always be a big group of people in everything we do - if we want a lot of people. If not, we just don't give out the information.
So far, what I've planned is the following:
- Sky diving
- Shark safari (Diving with sharks)
- Snorkling Hanauma Bay
- Surfing
- Hiking Manoa Falls and Diamondhead
- Camping at North Shore (Also see a Surf competition same weekend and check out Waimea beach)
- Visit the LOST beach
- Surfing
- BBQ
We will see how much of this there are actually time for, seen as I have exams and papers due during the time they are here. It is just a good way to have a big list. If you Aim at the top, you will hit closer than if you aim at the middle. So, why not set up everything, and then we will see what there are time to do.
Also, we will try to go out a lot and experience the Hawaiian nightlife. Both Camilla and Jonas deserves to see the best of Waikiki and O'ahu. I will bring my camera for the events, and probably borrow my roommates camera for the events that are for water (he got a waterproof camera) so we will be able to put up some awesome pictures!
Camilla and Jonas will also experience an American Thanksgiving to the fullest; we will be joining the same party as last year; Tommy Kekoa and his lovely family in Hawaii Kai. He was Patriks (one of my best friends in Hawaii) roommate last year. So it is going to be turkey and what not for the Nation and Kipperberg family this year!

Visits, School and Good times
As always, I'm having the time of my life and every day it just gets better, not consistently, but almost! So I truly say that I'm living life to the fullest at the moment and I don't think I've had such a great time as I can remember. But at the same time I also look forward to celebrating Christmas in Norway, and snowboard at Bjorli! It's going to be great.
Also, Camilla and Jonas is soon coming for a visit, which is going to be great. I talked to Camilla the other day, and I said what I've planned for when they come here, it will be some cool hiking's, nice beaches, bonfires and camping I guess would be the most memorable. And a great friend from Norway, Ingvild, who studied at HPU last semester is coming next week as well to visit us, which is going to be great, she promised to bring Stratos. Not that I really want one, but she asked me, and it was the only thing I could come up with :)
I'm now done with my midterms and coming up is some time off seen as I can't really move any of my toes, so I'm out of any sport. So I will try to do as much as possible now the upcoming weeks with Camilla and Jonas visiting it is a great opportunity for me to explore more of the Island as well.
Update coming when I got time, now I have to go.

Back to school again
So as the weekend is over, which means Halloween + Soccer tournament, I just want to add a couple of pictures from the tournament on Sunday. We had a lot of people attending, and also a lot of people just being there to be social. And everyone I've talked to so far had a GREAT time, so hopefully we will do it again soon - even though I think both of my big toes are sprained, or something like that. But I'm up and running soon enough.

80s party and more
So the 80s party is over, but my iPod has been filled with music from the 80s the last week, but now I'm kind of over it. This is just a short post, I will put up some pictures when I get back home, but right now I'm at campus, so the pictures aren't available. Also, a quick announcement; I will shave my beard on sunday, or before, so I will get a last picture, of the most humongous beard I've ever had - but don't get too excited, its not that good.
And this week there is a soccer tournament on Sunday, same as last Sunday, because we rescheduled it because it was pouring down.
So enjoy the pictures, have a good weekend, and congrats Jonatan med U21. Also good luck on Sunday, me and some friends have already planned an afterparty from Saturday to watch the game on our bigscreen through TV2 Sumo to cheer you up - anyone who meets up in yellow won't get in.

Whats the happy happ?
Aloha from Hawaii!
So, I've got a own domain for this blog: http://www.dsnation.org - which is sweet, because it gives me an awesome mail-address: m[a]dsnation.org [its the reason why i bought it]
The upcoming days are going to be fun. My roommate just got 2 girls from Germany coming over, who is going to live with us for a couple of weeks. They are two nice girls that he worked with this summer, so we are going to have a lot of fun.
Also, tonight there is a Swedish 80's party, hosted by the Swedish Student Association at our school - it is to be one of the best parties of the year hosted by HPU, so it's going to be a lot of fun, and I got my costume ready; the pictures will be up during the weekend.
On Saturday there is a Monsters Ball - which is a HPU organized Halloween Party that I will also attend, probably dressed as a fried egg, or a Cereal-killer, I haven't decided which one yet. I'll get some pictures for you guys in time.
On Sunday we are having a BIG Soccer tournament, hosted by the Norwegian Club, BOREALIS where I'm the president and the eventplanner, so I'm looking forward to it, and it will be a lot of fun.
Then on Monday I got my last exam in some time.
Peace for now, I'm entering the time machine and entering the 80s!
THIS BRINGS BACK SOME MEMORIES, DOESN'T IT?

Surfing USA

So it is hard to get pictures while actually surfing because it just gets chaotic, but my roommate, Kane, got some pictures from our surf session while we hustled our way out and through the waves to start surfing. Also, I'm adding a picture because I'm saving for a beard, only experimental! to see how good I can grow a beard and see how it looks. Enjoy : )

What's coming up next?
Hi folks!
I haven't posted in some time now so I just wanted to tell you guys what is coming up the next weeks or so. Last week I was suppose to go snorkling at a place called Hanauma Bay, which is really, really beautiful. But because my roommate got way too drunk the night before, he was nowhere even close to go, so we dropped it, and went surfing instead. He got an underwater camera that he brought, so as soon as I get my hands on the pictures, I will put them up here. But for now, let me tell you my plans for the upcoming weeks:
This weekend is going to be hectic. Today I am going with some Swedish guys to eat at Hooters; every guys dream place? followed by a housewarming to a friend of mine. Tomorrow morning at 11 the HPU Soccer League starts which is a intramural league for soccer players at the university. This is going to be fun and we are playing one game each week, I will put up some pictures when we are done. Then in the afternoon I will either go surf with my roommate, or we are playing soccer again at 4 (depending on how tired I am after the League). Saturday night is my good friend Jennifer's 21st Birthday, so she and her mom is preparing a big BBQ for her friends at their awesome apartment, so it is going to be fun!
And on Sunday we will try to go snorkling at Hanauma Bay or Surfing aswell. And then it is the week of school, which basically is just boring and just the same over and over; school, chill, seinfeld, workout, soccer.
And next weekend the Norwegian Student Association BOREALIS are hosting a barefooted soccer tournament in one of Hawaii's many parks, Fort DeRussy, and will hold a one-day tournament for about 75-100 people, so it is going to be fun, yet challenging to get it all done correctly. And then of course, some more midterms and exams and papers that needs to be done. It is sad but true, we actually have to do school too when your here at such a beautiful place.

North Shore Trip
And I'm back with some more stuff (mostly pictures, not much to tell). But today my roommate, and a friend of us, and I, went to North Shore just to take a day off to chill and relax! So we got up as early as we could (around 11, seen as it was saturday the night before and we had a long night, and I was up at 6 to see AaFK kicking Stromsgodsets ass, it felt good! GRATTIS Jonatan) so we drove up there, mostly to chill, I ate at McDonald's for my 2nd time in over a year, 10 chicken nuggets, it wasn't good. But the Milkshake was, extra thick chocolate milkshake is always good!
I also bought a new shorts, since my old one got blasted in a volleyball game last week with a roundhouse kick salto backflip spin that totally ruined my back, but ey, who cares, it was a nice shot.
So that's mostly it, enjoy the pictures and I'll be back - they call me The Terminator

Going Out In Hawaii
Hawaii is a great place to enjoy the night scene and so far I've been having a good time and been trying to go out and be social, from one - three times pr. week. I realized that three times was a bit too much because of school, so i overslept two times for the same class, Biology, so I stopped going out on Tuesday, even though the Tuesday nights are legendary at Mooses (they have 1$ drinks / 1$ beers).
I don't drink when I go out, or ever.. More or less.. But the 1$ drinks attracts a lot of people, and especially students so it is a very popular place.
Anyways we also have a restaurant/surfbar right around the corner where we live who is hosting a student party every friday from 9 - 2, so that have gotten a spot in my weekly schedule now, and has so far been really fun, with a lot of people from school and that's always fun. They also have different themes.
I haven't been able to get too many pictures so far yet, because I don't really take out my camera when I go out anymore, because it just takes so much space in my pockets with my iphone, also if I bring it I just end up taking picture of the fun instead of creating the fun - so I'm sorry for that. But other people are taking pictures, so I found some pictures on facebook and some I took one night I went out that I want to share with y'all people home in cold and rainy Norway,
The reason why I've been getting so active on the updating and picturing lately is because of Google's Picasa application is so easy and handy to synchronize Web Albums with Albums on my computer, and it is just really convenient and easy for me to do compared to the old system, where I upload one and one picture, the slideshow view is much easier and nicer in my opinion, gives me the opportunity to show more pictures, which gives you a better insight in my life in Paradise.
Goodnight,
midterm tomorrow, so time to sleep, its already 1 in the night - good night

Some Changes
Got some time to spare, or just time so I just made some changes to the graphical of the blog. Just wanted to see if I was able to get a picture in the header, and also make it the right width and some other tweaks. Also I'm using another template, that was more casual and laid-back.
Hope people enjoy, I also changed the header so that it makes sense to others too, not just the silly norwegians.
And while I'm at it, posting like crazy, I also wanted to mention the following:
Some songs that everyone should enjoy and I've been enjoying lately:
T.I. - Swagger Like Us (ft. Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne)
Lil Wayne - Mr. Carter ft. Jay-Z
Kanye West - Gone
Jay Z - Jockin Jay-Z
Jay-Z - D'Evils
The Game - Game's Pain
The Game - Angel ft. Common
The Game - Gentleman's Affair ft. Ne-Yo
Kanye West - Love Lockdown
Peace in Piza

Expanded Width
I thought the slideshows and the blog in general was too narrow, and too tight and small, so I did some google-searching, not soul-searching, and I found out a way to expand it, so that its now possible to make the slideshows wider.
To demonstrate, and try it out, I will upload some pictures and get them out here for you to enjoy,
Peace

Picnic and such
Haloha from Hawaii to the People of the arctics and what not!
Since I've been so unactive here, it's time to catch up. This weekend the Norwegian Student Association - BOREALIS - held a picnic for the Vikings and whoever wanted some Norwegian mingling.
So about 100 people showed up.. We had a blast and people ate Pizza and Hamburgers like a bunch of homeless people, or maybe homeless people hustled our food, I don't know, I was too busy getting my ass served in volleyball at the beachvolley court at Fort DeRussy.
But people was having a great time, and everyone who was there had a good time, at least the ones I spoke too.
We played volleyball and ate. We played Norwegians vs Swedes and the norwegians got slammed to the ground... I guess in the rematch we will get our A-squad together and really show those bastards who's the king of Fort DeRussy, because its certainly not the Swedes.
After the Picnic we gathered some people for a funtime at LuLu's - Waikiki's local surfbars. It was fun, and packed with Norwegians or wannabe's. I would guess, also about 100 showed up for this, but then again, who's counting?
Enough talk, and I will let the pictures do the talking! Enjoy the slideshow!

Mid-Term
Well, the semester is half-way through; and I got to know my grades, half way through.
So far, I got weak A in Writing & Analyzing, weak A in Math, A in Human Geography, A in Sociology and an A in MARS1000. So far I am doing much better than last semester, but this is only my grades halfway through, and most of the more demanding assignments and papers aren't due yet. I got a math exam next week, which I feel very confident about, so I should be back up to a strong A in Math.
And soon spring break! Next week! Can't wait!!!
I am also soon heading home to Norway - in exactly two months from now I am back in Aalesund... Else, there is not too much new, I will though be posting some pictures on the picture page! Enjoy people,
and peace out from the heart of Hawaii!

Long Break; sorry friends & family home!
First, let me say sorry for not updating the blog the last month (almost two). I don't really know why I haven't updated it, I just kind of forgot about it, but now I am back on track. Since the last post was posted, Vegard left me and went back to Norway (it was a tearful goodbye), and school started - it's actually mid-terms this week, how crazy is that! Some of the highlights is that I figured out how to post links in the sidebar on my blog - so I posted a link to the albums from Hawaii! I will try to upload pictures as often as possible - when I take new pictures.
Since my last post, I've also moved to a new place, much more convenient in term of school. I now live 5-10min walk to school, when I used to live 30-60min with bus from school (depending on the traffic). The downside is that it is far away from the beach - but luckily we got a pool area and a recreation deck w/BBQ area. Pictures of my new apartment and other pictures, can be found in the new album on Picasaweb (Click Here). I will stop uploading loads of pictures to my blog because it takes so much time and is the most time consuming part of doing blog posts.
My new roommate is a German/Japanese/Hispanic R&B singer. He is really cool and we are having a blast at our new place. Which always looks like on the pictures! (The area that we share are always nice and clean, when my room always is half messy...) He has a lot of family from Norway, and they live in Stavanger! (his music: www.kane-world.net)
The last two months, I have been playing soccer for Waikiki FC, and today, I played my fifth match, and I got my first goal in red. It was the winning goal making it 3-2 (we won 4-2) and 20 seconds later I dived in and saved a nice shot they had, and got it cleared out of danger, just in time. So today was by far my best match for Waikiki. And this upcoming week I will probably play with HPU's soccer team again to see what happends - I think they are recruiting, and I've been to a couple of their practices (organized by themselves w/o the coach). And I also got offered to play with Vaiete Premier (the second best team on Hawaii), which I am considering more than HPU (since playing college soccer takes to much time).
I also bought a new pair of shoes (Adidas TRX FG) so yesterday I took a shower with them to extend the leather and make it fit my foot. It didn't work too well (they were still a bit to small) so I put them in the oven on 175 fahrenheit degrees (about 65 celsius) for some time, and guess what, it worked like hell, now they fit perfectly!
The picture above, is from our Superbowl XLII (42) day at our apartment when we still needed some things to be fixed - but the TV, HD-cable, and the surround was working perfectly :) I had over (from the left on the picture): Ryen (American), Cody (American), Anders (Danish, in front), Truls (Norsk) og Patrik (Svensk). Kane, my new roommate had no interest so he didn't attend the fun!
School wise, I got 3 Mid-terms this week and 1 Mid-term next week, so this week will be pretty packed with studying instead of fun here in Hawaii, but it is school I'm here for! I also found out that I am not far enough in my education to be a part of the honor society for Psychology students; I need to be in my second Sophomore semester (which is next semester), so if I just keep up the hard work and good grades I will be a part of the national psychology fraternity; PsiChi by next year, and I am really motivated to continue to do good, so it won't be any problem!
I don't really have too much more on my mind, starting to miss my family & friends back in Norway - especially Kasper, and I feel bad that I didn't get to see Jonas that much before I left for Hawaii.
I got scheduled a skin appointment this week too for some kind of skin problems I got - I get white spots in my face (which also affects my eyebrow color - it turns white! Uhhww..), so I had to color it back to it original color... And the other day I also figured that I hate having hair here, so I decided to cut it short again, but by the next two weeks, I will probably cut it even more and re-invent the so popular army cut (super short). Because having hair is such a hazzle, and I get all those messed up farmer-tans.
Well, my first mid-term is tomorrow, so it's time for me to go to bed!
Good Night and I will try to update it as often as possible from now on - as I've said so many times before.....

Reporting Home
Vegard got here late on friday night, and I was greeting him on the aloha airport in Hawaii. I was suppose to greet him with a "lei" which is the flower necklace thing... But of course, since it was kind of late, the lei shop was closed - sorry 'bout that Vegard. I forgot my camera, so my "Vegard visits Hawaii"-collage won't cover the whole trip, but except from the arrival, we got a sh*tload of pictures up on facebook and I will try to upload them to my web-pictures ( www.picasaweb.com/tollaas ) so there you can enjoy some pictures, but it takes sometime to upload there, but I will try to update there as often as possible.
So far, we haven't really been that lucky with the weather, so our planned hikings and trips haven't really been completed yet, but as a positive guy, I am truly looking forward to this upcoming and last week with Vegard here.
So far, I've showed Vegard around campus, which he really liked, and I showed him the shopping center "ala moana", where I made him spend a fortune. And for new years, we started of slow, had some norwegian christmas food! THANKS VEGIS! and just sat at my place chilling, then we had some drinks, and a lot of people came over so we really had a nice time on new years eve. But the fireworks in Hawaii was really disappointing - but at least it's still legal here in Hawaii, suckers!! :) (for international people: fireworks are no longer legal in Norway).
So we are still on standby on our major plannings - but I will add some pictures, so enjoy! : ) and I will try to make Vegard write a guest blog here to give his opinions and views about Hawaii so far! Oh, and we've been to Hard Rock Cafe, but I still need to show him Hooters, Planet Hollywood and the super nice taco place right on campus were you get a huge ass burrito for only $6.00 (33 NOK) - I am talking BIG and MEATY! Oh, and I couldn't resist - Cheeseburger in Paradise - had to do it, Hawaii's best burger without doubt, best I've ever tasted actually! :)
