Sunset and Waimea Shorebreak

So we rented a car. First we got a rate at 18$ / day and ordered. When we got there it was 32$ extra pr. day because of insurance of the car aswell. Lame of the company to not mention it, but it is OK. We got a Honda Civic, a good enough car.

We decided to drive to watch one of the worlds most prestigious surf contests, The Triple Crown event; more precisely the one at Sunset Beach (One out of three competitions; the two others are at Haleiwa and Banzai Pipeline). There we saw some great surfing - but the pictures didn't get too good from the surfing. But we also saw someone Camilla thought reminded her of the lead actor in "The Hills" a reality show on MTV.

After the surf contest, we went to Waimea Bay Beach Park to jump off the Waimea rock and play with the HUGE shorebreak they got. Apparently one of the worlds largest shorebreaks. The Waimea Rock was closed because too big waves. But I didn't mind, playing in the waves was even more fun and thrilling. Even though the lifeguards warned everyone to be careful and get out of the water, a lot of people stayed in the water - this resulted in 4 ambulances coming to pick up one after one. But getting out of the water is easier said then done. This is a thing that is hard to explain to ANYONE whom never been swimming at Waimea on a day with huge waves. The power of a wave is just INCREDIBLE. And what seems as a harmful and small wave, is all of a sudden a 6-8m high mountain. This can be seen in the slideshow where I struggle to get out of the water when the largest wave of the day came crushing on to the shore. Fun, but yet exciting and thrilling. I hope Skydiving and Sharkdiving is even more exciting, and I guess it is. ENJOY!
